You’re o-fish-ally invited to dive in and support the Gladys Porter Zoo, at the biggest fundraiser of the year Zoofari 09. It is your chance to enjoy a wild fiesta, get great items and do it knowing you are helping support a worthy cause; helping the Zoo add a new exhibit that will both entertain and educate. This year’s proceeds are earmarked to benefit construction of the new Russell Aquatic Ecology Exhibit.
The Russell Aquatic Ecology Exhibit will measure 6,535 square feet and occupy the current Aquatic Wing site as well as a section of the large adjacent Bongo display yard. It will feature: a shark encounter, a ray “touch pool,” native Texas salt and freshwater sport fish displays, a mangrove tank, a grassbed habitat, and a jetties exhibit. Colorful, suspended educational banners and graphics will communicate key concepts concerning ecosystems and the need to preserve them.
