Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis) - In the spring of 2007 our new Komodo dragon exhibit, Realm of the Dragon, opened. The Komodo dragon is the largest lizard in the world and the only one known to actually kill and eat human beings. Specialized bacteria live in the mouth of the dragon, making its bite more lethal than those of many venomous snakes. In the wild it typically feeds on deer and goats but has been known to prey even on water buffaloes.
