Whoa! Now here's an animal that loves to eat packrats. It's Donato the Diamondback Rattlesnake! Many people are surprised to learn how few species of venomous snakes there are out here in the Scrub. Although there are about 30 species of snakes in Tamaulipan Scrub country, Donato is one of only 4 venomous ones. Donato avoids humans. He saves his venom for killing prey. There are lots of dangers for me out here! Still, as long as I stay out of striking range, I'll live another day.
