Here's another of the 21 species of cacti that you can find in the Scrub. It's called horse crippler. Away from the resaca, the Scrub is very dry indeed. We only get about 25 inches of rain a year (15 inches would be desert conditions). Cacti like the horse crippler store water in their thick stems.
