Well, I think I'll make my way
back to my nest. Oh, here's a familiar face, near
the resaca. It's Gisella the Giant Toad! She's another
animal you won't find north of Tamaulipan Scrub
country. She's much bigger than other local toads,
about 7 inches long. See that big gland behind her
eye with little holes in it? That's where she produces
a nasty toxin that keeps most predators from eating
her. After heavy rains, the male giant toads call
Gisella to her breeding pond to lay her eggs.
