Near the resaca we find the occasional
sabal palm. In our subtropical climate, Texas sabal
palm does fine, as long as it has moisture. In a
few spots near the Rio Grande, where there is more
moisture, sabals grow tall and thick. You can see
examples of these forests at the Audubon Society's
Sabal Palm Sanctuary, and The Nature Conservancy's
Southmost Preserve. Out here in the scrub, it is
much drier, but you can find a few sabals along
resacas.
