Western diamondback rattlesnake
(Crotalus atrox) - An enduring symbol of
the West, this magnificent animal is still common
in parts of Texas and northern Mexico. In the spring,
they are quite plentiful, as many as 40 can be seen
in a few hours of night driving through good habitat.
It is quite likely that 7-footers still roam the
Tamaulipan Scrub country.
