Crocodile monitor (Varanus salvadorii) - The rare crocodile monitor is the second largest lizard, after the famous Komodo dragon. It comes from the rain forests of Indonesia. More agile than the Komodo, even the adults are good climbers. They are quite adept at using their whiplike tails in defense. The Gladys Porter Zoo is one of the few zoos to successfully breed this rare lizard.
